The Search for Peace: How to Stop Chasing and Start Receiving

Mar 17, 2025

Many people today are on a never-ending quest for peace. They believe that once they achieve success, find the right relationship, or gain control over their circumstances, peace will follow. But what if true peace isn't something we chase—but something we receive?

Recognizing False Peace

The world teaches us that peace comes from external circumstances:

  • "I’ll feel at peace when I get the job."
  • "I’ll have peace when I find the right person."
  • "If I can just avoid stress, I’ll be at peace."

But the Bible tells a different story. John 16:33 says, “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Worldly peace is always temporary. It disappears the moment life gets difficult. Real peace isn’t found in perfect circumstances—it’s built on a solid foundation.

Believing in True Peace

True peace isn’t an emotion or a fleeting feeling—it’s a person. Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”

Jesus himself is called the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). He doesn’t just offer peace—He is peace. When we have a relationship with Him, we experience a steady, unshakable peace that remains even in the hardest seasons of life.

How to Attain Lasting Peace

Instead of asking, “How can I have more peace?”, the better question is, “How can I stay connected to the source of peace?”

The Bible gives us a simple answer: John 15:4-5 says, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you... apart from me, you can do nothing.”

The Peace Formula:

  1. Stay connected to God – Just like a branch must stay connected to the vine to bear fruit, we must stay connected to God to receive His peace.
  2. Root yourself in biblical wisdom – If your foundation is in worldly wisdom, peace will always feel unstable. But when you trust in God’s truth, peace becomes unshakable.
  3. Let God’s peace flow through you – The fruit of the Spirit, including peace, grows naturally in our lives when we stay connected to God (Galatians 5:22-23).

Becoming a Peacemaker

Jesus said in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

When you carry real peace, people notice. Peacemakers don’t just experience peace—they spread it. They bring calmness in chaotic situations, they don’t get caught up in gossip or fear, and they reflect the love of God in their interactions.

Ask yourself:

  • Where in my life can I become a peacemaker?
  • How can I let God’s peace guide my decisions and actions?

Take the First Step Today

You don’t have to have it all figured out. Simply start by saying:

"God, I want to know Your peace. Open my eyes to see, my ears to hear, and my heart to receive."

True peace isn’t found in perfect circumstances—it’s found in a perfect Savior. Stay connected to Him, and watch how your life shifts.
