The Truth About the "Let Them" Theory: A Biblical Perspective
Mar 20, 2025
The Let Them theory has been making waves in self-help circles, encouraging people to “let them” walk away, disappoint you, or reveal their true selves. It’s marketed as a way to release control and protect your peace. But what if I told you this approach—while close to the truth—actually falls short?
While Let Them can help set boundaries, God’s way offers something deeper: love, forgiveness, and transformation. Let’s break it down.
The World's Model: Just "Let Them"
The Let Them trend promotes:
Let them walk away if they don’t value you.
Let them hurt you, but don’t engage.
Set boundaries and cut off negativity.
It sounds reasonable, right? But here’s the problem: The world’s model often leads to bitterness and emotional walls rather than real healing.
God's Model: Love, Forgive, and Pray for Them
Instead of simply “letting them,” God calls us to respond differently.
Matthew 5:44 – “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
This doesn’t mean tolerating toxic behavior or lacking boundaries. It means choosing grace over resentment and responding with wisdom, not bitterness.
Love Them – Show kindness even when it’s undeserved.
Forgive Them – Release their hold on your heart.
Pray for Them – Ask God to bless and transform them.
This approach doesn’t just free them—it frees you.
Why Forgiveness Heals You First
Holding onto bitterness hurts you more than them. Ever been angry at someone while they go on living their life, completely unaware of your pain?
Colossians 3:13 – “Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Forgiveness isn’t excusing someone’s actions—it’s releasing their grip on your heart so you can move forward.
How to Shift from Bitterness to Freedom
Take Inventory – Who are you struggling to love or forgive? Write their name down.
Pray for Clarity – Ask God to help you see them through His eyes.
Take Small Steps – Start with kindness, avoid negative talk, and pray for their well-being.
The Ripple Effect of Choosing Grace
Choosing love over bitterness doesn’t just change you—it changes the atmosphere around you. You become a light that shifts how others respond, creating a ripple effect of peace and healing.
So, this week, ask yourself: Am I following the world’s way or God’s way? Which one will actually lead to transformation?
If this resonated with you, share it with someone who needs encouragement. Let’s choose to love, forgive, and pray—because that’s what brings real peace.
