Stop Trusting Your Gut — And Start Trusting God

Apr 12, 2025

You’ve probably heard the advice a hundred times:
“Follow your heart.”
“Trust your gut.”

It sounds empowering. Emotional. Even spiritual. But here’s the hard truth:

Your gut can fail you.
Your feelings can lie to you.
But God’s wisdom? It never will.

When Emotions Lead the Way

One minute you're confident and clear.
The next, you’re overwhelmed with doubt.

That’s because feelings are fleeting—influenced by fear, fatigue, pressure, and past pain. And when we let emotions lead our decisions, we often end up even more confused than before.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding…”

God’s guidance isn’t based on emotion.
It’s steady, rooted in truth, and always leads to peace.

Trust Isn’t About Gut Instinct—It’s About God’s Direction

When you're in a moment of decision, ask yourself:

  • Am I acting out of emotion?

  • Am I rushing without clarity?

  • Have I actually paused to pray?

James 1:5 says: “If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask Him—and He’ll tell you.”

You don’t have to guess your way through life. You just have to ask the One who already knows the path.

Wisdom Is the Secret Weapon

Ecclesiastes 10:10 – “A dull axe requires great strength, but wisdom brings success.”

Trying to chop through life with emotional decisions is like using a dull axe.
It takes more energy and leads to burnout.

But wisdom? It sharpens the blade.
You work smarter, not harder.

How to Start Trusting God Over Your Gut:

  1. Pause before reacting

  2. Pray for clarity

  3. Read a Proverb a day

  4. Ask God to lead—then listen

  5. Surround yourself with truth-driven voices

Final Word

Your plans might be good—but God’s plans are great.

Proverbs 16:9 – “We make our plans, but God directs our steps.”

So the next time the world says “trust your gut,”
pause—
and trust the One who made you instead.
